                               2010-12-22

Consecutive factory safety accidents of The Sixth Naphtha Cracking Plant have already damaged agriculture and fishery, and resident’s health condition near the plant. In the supervise committee which was held at Dec. 22nd, Yunlin county government said that central government should supervise The Sixth Naphtha Cracking Plant strictly. Also, they required The Sixth Naphtha Cracking Plant have to set up a disaster forecast system immediately in order to have more time to rescue when the unfortunate disaster happens again.

The general-director of environment protection bureau, Mr. Yeh mentioned in the meeting that after The Sixth Naphtha Cracking Plant established, residents in the neighbourhood area have higher opportunity to get cancer. Pollution of air, water, and soil also damage agriculture, fishery and farming industry. We hope that The Sixth Naphtha Cracking Plant can improve their defects soon.

In the meeting, The Sixth Naphtha Cracking Plant supervise committees strongly questioned that the statistics which Formosa Petrochemical Corporation authorized academic units to investigate is lack of reliance. This statistics includes air quality, noise, water quality, and soil pollution. Also, those committees urged government institutions that they should have some positive actions.

The Sixth Naphtha Cracking Plant supervise committees all questioned about the attitude and ability that The Sixth Naphtha Cracking Plant deal with factory safety accidents. They required that The Sixth Naphtha Cracking Plant should make an intensive review. They also hope that Formosa Petrochemical Corporation can accomplish the promise they made years ago.

Yunlin county government strongly suggest Environmental Protection Administration that they should hire more committees who lives in Yunlin county. Magistrate Su also hope that our central government can establish a state-level emergency operation centre to protect our residents.
